Ballet shoes are special types of shoes that are worn by ballerinas. The origins of the ballet dance can be traced to ancient Italy. It later spread to countries like France and Russia where it underwent great developments. Today, ballet is popular in many parts of the world. Ballet shoes are part of the costume used during this dance.
Ballet shoes are often made from light materials for comfort and ease of dancing. They are made using materials of different kinds such as, soft leather, satin or even canvas. In the past, the shoes had a high heel but recent developments also provide low heeled shoes. The low heel is meant to make the shoes more comfortable.
Traditional female ballet dancers used to wear pink shoes while men wore either black or white ones. Modern ballet dancers now wear tan coloured ballet slippers which make them appear bear footed on stage. These shoes can also have a split sole made of durable materials for greater movement and flexibility.
These soft ballet shoes are secured using a band made of an elastic material. In most cases, a single band across the foot arch is incorporated. In other cases, two strips crossing each other at the same place are used. This is meant to ensure that the foot of the wearer fits into the shoe well and that she is comfortable.
There is a special type of the ballet shoe known as Pointe shoe. The shoe is specially designed for the dancers who have trained in soft ballet shoes for some time, who want to specialise in Pointe work which means dancing on the tips of their toes. These shoes feature a box which enables the dancer to dance on the tip of their toes for longer. The Pointe shoes are commonly worn by female dancers although men can also wear them. They are usually available in light pink but are often dyed to match outfits for performances and shows.
They enable the more advanced dancers to appear sylph-like and weightless when moving. They also allow the dancer to get off the ground and fly more easily.
Ballet shoes are easily available from various online suppliers and offline shops. They are of different quality and their prices vary depending on the manufacturer and the quality.
